Pyramids of Waste - Kaufen für die Müllhalde - Planned Obsolescence

The untold story of Planned Obsolescence. A film by Cosima Dannoritzer. What is Planned Obsolescence: in industrial design it is a policy of deliberately planning or designing a product with a limited useful life, so it will become obsolete or nonfunctional after a certain period of time. Planned obsolescence has potential benefits for a producer because to obtain continuing use of the product the consumer is under pressure to purchase again, whether from the same manufacturer (a replacement part or a newer model), or from a competitor which might also rely on planned obsolescence.

In other words, certain products are designed to fail in order to uphold cyclical consumption which keeps the economy growing and developing while simultaneously producing endless tons of waste and toxic chemicals endangering all life on this planet.

"Anyone who believes exponential growth can go on forever in a finite world is either a madman or an economist."
